Physical Fitness Physical fitness is a general state
of health and well-being or
specifically the ability to perform aspects of sports or
occupations. Physical fitness is generally achieved through correct nutrition, exercise, hygiene and rest. It is a
set of attributes or characteristics that people have or achieve that relates
to the ability to perform physical activity.
Before the industrial
revolution, fitness was the capacity to carry out the day’s
activities without undue fatigue. However with automation and changes in
lifestyles, physical fitness is now considered a measure of the body’s
ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities,
to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet
emergency situations.
Wikipedia
Fitness
does not only refer to being physically fit, but also refers to a person’s
mental state as well. If a person is physically fit, but mentally unwell or
troubled, he or she will not be able to function optimally. Mental fitness can
only be achieved if your body is functioning well. You can help relax your own
mind and eliminate stresses by exercising regularly and eating right.
Physical fitness is “a set of abilities that one possesses in order to
perform physical activities. A physical activity is any bodily movement
produced by the contraction of skeletal muscles those results in a substantial
increase in energy expenditure” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or
CDC, 1985).

1. Importance of Physical Fitness-
The importance of physical fitness cannot be emphasized enough. In today’s society that is
moving towards a more sedentary lifestyle, there is a greater need than ever to
increase the daily activity level to maintain both cardiovascular fitness and
body weight.
People who are physically
fit are also healthier, are able to maintain their most optimum weight, and are
also not prone to cardiac and other health problems. In order to maintain a
relaxed state of mind, a person should be physically active. A person who is
fit both physically and mentally is strong enough to face the ups and downs of
life, and is not affected by drastic changes if they take place.
Advantages of Being Physically Fit
Physical fitness not only improves our quality
of life, but also helps us in the long run. It increases cardiovascular fitness
and body endurance. Regular exercise can also help increase the strength of
your heart.
What's more, being physically fit also
increases blood circulation and helps it to deliver oxygen and nutrients to all
the tissues. This not only helps the muscles increase your overall body
strength, but increases its ability to exert force and sustain contractions.
Physical fitness makes your joints and body
more flexible, and regular exercise results in a decrease of body fat. It
increases lean body mass, resulting in a balanced and healthy body composition.
