Badminton Scoring System

The Laws of Badminton and Competition Regulations in the BWF Statutes provide the detail on every aspect of the game of badminton.
Below is a brief overview  - simplified rules.

Scoring System
  • A match consists of the best of 3 games of 21 points.
  • Every time there is a serve – there is a point scored.
  • The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.
  • At 20 all, the side which gains a 2 point lead first, wins that game.
  • At 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point, wins that game.
  • The side winning a game serves first in the next game.
Interval and Change of Ends
  • When the leading score reaches 11 points, players have a 60 second interval.
  • A 2 minute interval between each game is allowed.
  • In the third game, players change ends when the leading score reaches 11 points.
Singles
  • At the beginning of the game (0-0) and when the server’s score is eventhe server serves from the right service court. When the server’s score is odd, the server serves from the left service court.
  • If the server wins a rally, the server scores a point and then serves again from the alternate service court.
  • If the receiver wins a rally, the receiver scores a point and becomes the new server. They serve from the appropriate service court – left if their score is odd, and right if it is even.

    Doubles
  • A side has only one ‘service’.
  • The service passes consecutively to the players as shown in the diagram.
  • At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right service court. When it is odd, the server serves from the left court.
  • If the serving side wins a rally, the serving side scores a point and the same server serves again from the alternate service court.
  • If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side scores a point. The receiving side becomes the new serving side.
  • The players do not change their respective service courts until they win a point when their side is serving.
If players commit an error in the service court, the error is corrected when the mistake is discovered.
In a doubles match between A & B against C & D.  A & B won the toss and decided to serve. A to serve to C. A shall be the initial server while C shall be the initial receiver.

Scenario               Score        Service From          Server         Winner
Love AllRight Service Court because the score of the serving side is even.A serves to C. A and C are the initial server and receiver.A & Brules-dir1
A & B win a point. A & B will change service courts. A serves again from Left service court. C & D will stay in the same service courts.1-0Left Service Court because the score of the serving side is odd.A serves to D.C & Drules-dir2
C & D win a point and also right to serve. Nobody will change their respective service courts.1-1Left Service Court because the score of the serving side is odd.D serves to A.A & Brules-dir3

A & B win a point. A & B will change service courts. A serves again from Right service court. C & D will stay in the same service courts.4-3Right Service Court because the score of the serving side is even.A serves to D.C & Drules-dir8
Note that this means:
  • As in singles, the order of server depends on whether the score is odd or even.
  • The service court is changed by the servicing side only when a point is scored. In all other cases, the players continue to stay in their respective service court from where they played the previous rally. This guarantees an alternate server.

Physical Fitness and its importance

Physical Fitness and its Advantages

A. Physical Fitness Physical fitness is a general state of health and well-being or specifically the ability to perform aspects of sports or occupations. Physical fitness is generally achieved through correct nutritionexercisehygiene and rest. It is a set of attributes or characteristics that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity.
Before the industrial revolution, fitness was the capacity to carry out the day’s activities without undue fatigue. However with automation and changes in lifestyles, physical fitness is now considered a measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet emergency situations.
Wikipedia
Fitness does not only refer to being physically fit, but also refers to a person’s mental state as well. If a person is physically fit, but mentally unwell or troubled, he or she will not be able to function optimally. Mental fitness can only be achieved if your body is functioning well. You can help relax your own mind and eliminate stresses by exercising regularly and eating right.

Physical fitness is “a set of abilities that one possesses in order to perform physical activities. A physical activity is any bodily movement produced by the contraction of skeletal muscles those results in a substantial increase in energy expenditure” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC, 1985).

 Concept and Principle ( 3 days )
1. Importance of Physical Fitness-
The importance of physical fitness cannot be emphasized enough. In today’s society that is moving towards a more sedentary lifestyle, there is a greater need than ever to increase the daily activity level to maintain both cardiovascular fitness and body weight.
People who are physically fit are also healthier, are able to maintain their most optimum weight, and are also not prone to cardiac and other health problems. In order to maintain a relaxed state of mind, a person should be physically active. A person who is fit both physically and mentally is strong enough to face the ups and downs of life, and is not affected by drastic changes if they take place.
Advantages of Being Physically Fit
Physical fitness not only improves our quality of life, but also helps us in the long run. It increases cardiovascular fitness and body endurance. Regular exercise can also help increase the strength of your heart.
What's more, being physically fit also increases blood circulation and helps it to deliver oxygen and nutrients to all the tissues. This not only helps the muscles increase your overall body strength, but increases its ability to exert force and sustain contractions.

Physical fitness makes your joints and body more flexible, and regular exercise results in a decrease of body fat. It increases lean body mass, resulting in a balanced and healthy body composition.
